Wyatt, Matthew Digby (1820-1877)

The Great Exhibition of 1851 in London, introduced a decade that saw the publication of many impressive chromolithographed books. One of these was this fine work by Matthew Digby Wyatt, “The Industrial Arts of the Nineteenth Century, At The Great Exhibition, 1851”, published in 1853, illustrating objects of the Victorian age. Wyatt illustrated some of the most exquisite objects on display at the Exhibition, and twenty artists were commissioned to provide the drawings. The drawings were then lithographed by Francis Bedford, John Sleigh and others, and the work was printed by the Day and Son company in London, in 1853.
