Sweet, Robert (1783-1835)

Robert Sweet was 16 years old when he was placed under the care of his brother James, who at the time was gardener to Richard Bright of Ham Green. He remained there for nine years, and subsequently had charge of the collection of plants at Woodlands, residence of John Julius Angerstein. Sweet became a partner in the Stockwell nursery, was employed as a private gardener, and eventually devoted himself to the production of his numerous botanical works, while cultivating a number of plants in his gardens. The publication, “The Florist’s Guide, and Cultivator’s Directory”, was published from 1827-1832.
Prints from this publication are quite rare and feature original hand coloring
