Pequegnot, Auguste (1819-1878)

Auguste Pequegnot was a French painter and engraver. He painted mainly landscapes and beautiful women, studying under the Master Ciceri. He produced “Ornements Vases et Decorations”, a series of one hundred etchings of ornaments, vases, and decorations designed by “the masters.” The prints are of a wide variety of architectural, sculptural, and decorative arts , finely etched or engraved by Pequegnot after such famous artists as Raphael, Durer, Boucher, Watteau, Berain, Guido Reni, Daniel Marot, etc. Together they are a compendium of architectural ornament from the Renaissance through Louis XIV, XV, and XVI periods, ending with the French Empire of the early 19th Century.
