“Naturgeschichte der Vogel Mitteleuropas” (Natural History of Central European Birds), was originally written by Johann Andreas Naumann (1744-1826) and Johann Friedrich Naumann (1780-1857). It was published from 1795-1817, and in a second edition from 1822-1860. The third edition was a revised and enlarged version by Johann Friedrich Naumann, and was published from 1896-1905. The text was unaltered, with any corrections being made as footnotes, and any additions being made in square brackets. The birds had all been redrawn showing their natural surroundings, and are by such artists as Keulemans, Gvring, Geisler, and Kleinschmidt.

Prints from this publication are unusually large and feature vivid coloring
