L'Admiral, Jacob (1700-1770)

Jacob L’Admiral specialized in the metamorphosis of various species of butterflies. He produced a total of 33 copper etchings, that after his death in 1770, Dr. M. Houttuyn acquired. Dr. Houttuyn edited the text and ultimately published the plates in 1774. Only plate I and plate VII bear the engravers signature, making this plate even more desirable. This work is considered as being of very high entomological and botanical quality.
