Knorr, Georg Wolfgang (1705-1761)

Georg Wolfgang Knorr was a Nuremberg painter, engraver, palaeontologist, and art dealer. His famous work, “A Thresaurus Re Herbariae Hortensisque Universalis” was described by Nissen as the most beautiful of flower books, with plates that are exceptionally well done. Knorr prepared the first volume, which was issued in parts from 1750-1770, but he died in 1761 prior to the completion of the work. Philipp Friedrich Gmelin, brother of the author of “Flora Sibirica”, and Georg Rudolf Bohmer provided the descriptive script.
Prints from this publication are very rare, and feature excellent original hand coloring.
