Knoop, Johann Hermann (1700-1769)
Johann Hermann Knoop was head gardener to the Dowager Princess of Orange at Marienburg. Beyond cultivating of the plants, Koop was part of the developing science of garden design, combining land surveying and mathematics. His well known publication “Pomology or description of the best kinds of apples and pears” was the first color work exclusively on pomology and fruit, printed in 1763. The work was so popular that it was translated from the original Dutch into French and German.
