Hooker, William (1785-1865)

William Hooker was well known, and considered one of the most influential English botanists in the 19th Century. He traveled to many countries on botanical explorations, and edited and published numerous botanical references, which helped to set his reputation as a botanist. He was the Professor of Botany at Glasgow University from 1820-1840, and became the Director of Kew Gardens in 1841, where he revitalized the gardens and herbarium.
