Hewitson, William (1806-1878)

William Hewitson was a talented artist who studied British Coleoptera and Lepidoptera as well as Ornithology and Oology. His “British Oology; being illustrations of the eggs of British Birds”, was the first major English oological work, with the first edition being published in 37 parts in 1831, and a supplement published in 1842. It contained 171 exquisitely hand colored plates drawn and lithographed by the author.
Prints from this publication feature finely detailed images.
