Jacques Francois Blondel, the nephew of Francois Blondel, was a famous French architect, architect to the King, founder of the first private school of architecture in France, designed the town hall and Place d Arms at Strasbourg, and designed the west portal of the cathedral at Metz. Blondel published not only the “Architecture Francois ou Recuel des plans, elevations, coupes et profiles”, valuable for its engraved views of buildings that have since been destroyed, but also the “Cours d architecture; ou, Traite de la decoration” from 1771-1777.
