Berge, Frederick W. (1811-1883)

Frederick Berge was a German naturalist, ornithologist and entomologist. In addition to the Shell series, he also authored reference books on Beetles, Butterflies and Months, as well as European and non-European Birds. His publication “Conchylienbuch” was published in 1850. It depicts a total of 726 species of shells, 709 of which are featured on 44 plates hand colored plates.

Prints from this publication are quite rare and feature original hand coloring.
