Sydenham Edwards was the son of a Welch schoolmaster who caught the attention of William Curtis. He later came to London to train with Curtis, and for 27 years, most of the drawings in Curtis’ “Botanical Magazine” were by Edwards. In 1815, Edwards severed his connection with Curtis after a disagreement and started the rival publication “Botanical Register”. These beautifully executed hand colored plates are from the “Botanical Register of Exotic Plants”, published in 1826.

Prints from this publication feature very nice original hand coloring.
