  Chandler, William Henry (1854-1928)

William Henry Chandler has, in recent years, come to be known as America's foremost pastel artist. This is due in part to the indisputable fact that Chandler is, without question, this country's most prolific pastel artist. No other artist is responsible for more pastel art than Chandler; beautiful landscapes, winter landscapes, wonderful marine and seascapes, still life with fruit and fowl. Chandler's work portrays the feel and essence of a bygone era, untouched by the course of human progress. Chandler was a popular artist in his own time, his style frequently copied by other artists of the era. His original works were mass produced as prints and lithographs by such prestigious publishing houses as Taber-Prang, Hallen and Weiner (NY), Joseph Hoover (Phila), and Mueller and Lucksinger Co. (NY). Like any other prolific artists, some of Chandler's works do not stand up to his best works. His best works, however, can measure up to any of his highly regarded contemporaries.

William Henry Chandler drawings are quite rare
